What location data we collect

We want to be exact about location, because location is sensitive. This page describes precisely what SMOTHER collects, what it doesn't, who can see it, and how to turn it off.

What we collect

When you choose to check in, SMOTHER stores a single spot: a latitude/longitude point, an optional note you type, and optionally a saved place (like "Home" or "School"). That is the entire location record. It is tied to the family member you checked in as.

What we do NOT collect

• No background tracking. The app never follows your movement. It does not watch your GPS while closed or in the background.
• No automatic location. Your location is never sent unless you press Check in yourself.
• No movement history or routes. We don't build a trail of where you've been — only the individual check-ins you create.
• No selling of location. We never sell location data to anyone.

Who can see your check-ins

Visibility is checked on our servers using the choices you made — a client can't bypass it. A check-in is visible only to:

• You.
• Household admins.
• The specific people you approved. Sharing is off by default. To share, a member turns on location sharing and then individually picks who is allowed to see them.

No one else — not other household members, and not the public.

How to turn it off

Open Settings and turn a member's location sharing off. Sharing stops immediately — no further check-ins are shown to others. Existing check-ins can be deleted one by one.

How to delete your data

You can delete any single check-in at any time. To remove all of your location data, delete your check-ins or contact us and we'll delete everything tied to your account.

Children

Location sharing is off by default for every member, including kids. A parent or guardian controls whether it's turned on and who can see a child's check-ins.
