Privacy Policy

SMOTHER is a family calendar, map, and work-schedule app. This policy explains what information we collect, who can see it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language on purpose.

1. The short version

You add your family's events, places, work schedules, and — only if you choose — occasional check-ins to share where you are. Sharing is off by default. We never track your location in the background, and we never sell your data.

2. Your account

To use SMOTHER you create an account with an email and password. Your password is handled by our authentication provider and stored hashed — we cannot see it. Your account also holds your display name.

3. The family data you add

You may add and control the following, and you can delete any of it at any time:

• Family members — name, role (parent, kid, grandparent, friend), photo, phone, birthday, color, and notes.
• Events — title, time, location, notes, and who's invited.
• Places — saved locations like home, work, or school with an address.
• Work schedules — shift patterns (fixed, rotating, or days-on/days-off hitches) and any schedule overrides.
• Reminders & comments — to-dos assigned to people and notes on events.

4. Who can see what

SMOTHER is built for a household. People in your household can see the shared calendar, saved places, and work schedules so the family can coordinate. Location check-ins are different and more private: a check-in is only visible to the people you have individually approved, plus household admins. No one else.

5. Location data (opt-in, manual only)

Location sharing is off by default for every member. To share, you turn on sharing and then pick the specific people allowed to see you. Even then, SMOTHER does not track your location in the background. The only location we ever receive is a spot you create yourself by pressing Check in — a single point, an optional note, and optionally a saved place. There is no movement history, no route, and no automatic updates. See our plain-language location explainer for the full details.

6. How we protect your data

Access to your data is enforced on our servers, record by record. Your check-ins, for example, can only be read by you and by household admins — not by other members, and not by the public. Location visibility is checked on the server using the sharing choices you made, so a client can't bypass them.

7. Data retention & deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual events, places, check-ins, schedules, or members at any time, and deleting a check-in removes it. To delete your account and everything in it, contact us at support@smother.app.

8. Children

SMOTHER is designed for family use, and that includes children — but a child should be added and managed by a parent or guardian. Location sharing for any member is off by default and is controlled by a parent.
